Recently there is a news about Michelle Wie that she put college above golf. Maybe this is a big surprise to most people including me. Michelle Wie now is near to the summit of her career, if she give up her career and pursuite study, perhaps it is a big pity.

Michelle Wie, daughter of two university academics, made it clear this week that at this stage in her life, college comes before golf.

This when golf’s one-time teen sensation opted out of the CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge at Blackhawk Country club in Northern California because of a clash of dates with Stanford University.

The event at Blackhawk is set to run from September 24 to 27, but this is in the same week that Stanford begins its autumn quarter.

In advising the tournament organizers that she wouldn’t be able to play, Wie wrote: “While I was excited about playing, a scheduling conflict with my return to Stanford unfortunately will not allow me to be there”, which means that she will temporarily give up her favorite golf and also including her Nike clubs. By the way, before long, Wie will attend the RICHO Women’s British Open in a Nike dress.

“I wish everyone there a great tournament and will look forward to getting back to the event in the future.”

In her first season with full membership of the Tour, Wie, now 19, is 16th on the LPGA money list with just under $600,000 in earnings.

She has had six top-10 finishes in 16 events and believes it won’t be too long before she picks up her first victory.

Players have until Friday to confirm their entries, but right now high profile women golfers Paula Creamer, Lorena Ochoa and Natalie Gulbis are all expected to play.

Tournament organizer Brian Flajole is understandably disappointed that Wie won’t show, but says: “We certainly understand Michelle’s predicament as she tries to balance college and her tournament schedule.”
